Description
In the first keynote speech at visionSTAGE on 21.05. we look at Vienna. The introduction of school streets has triggered a broad discussion in Vienna about the mobility of children. Remarkable is the high approval of the population for traffic calming measures in front of schools. These range from temporary traffic bans (school streets) to car-free school forecourts. Long-term studies show that traffic behavior is also changing: For example, the proportion of primary school children traveling to school by car was reduced from 19 percent to 13 percent between 2010 and 2019.
In her short presentation, Petra Jens, Pedestrian Traffic Officer of the City of Vienna, will shed light on the developments surrounding school traffic in Vienna and will also bring this perspective to the subsequent panel discussion on instruments for a successful traffic turnaround. "
