Description

Especially for intermodal connections in rural regions, autonomous on-demand services can be helpful in closing the gaps on the first and last mile; they are also suitable for opening up distinct areas as shuttles. From the experiences of the pilot projects, insights can already be derived for the integration of these systems into public transport and, from the operator's point of view, the licensing and procurement issues can be reflected. We take stock and venture an outlook on this future-shaping technology, its potential for opening up rural areas and possibilities for influencing the improvement of services.
