Trier: From bus depot to climate-friendly residential area
Stadtwerke Trier (SWT) is developing a new residential area on the two-hectare site of a former bus depot in the Trier-West district. Apart from a commercial building, only residential buildings are being constructed on the site by local housing companies, including BVT Bau und Vermietungsgenossenschaft Trier, Caritasverband Trier, Wohnungsbau und Treuhand AG (gbt) and the company Samok-Bau. The focus is on creating affordable, sustainable living space. Central heat pumps, a biomethane-fuelled combined heat and power plant and photovoltaic systems will be built to supply energy to the 130 planned units. While the old structures of the bus depot have been completely dismantled, the listed machine hall on the site, which once belonged to the municipal power station, will be returned to its origins to house the central technical systems. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025.
