Since November 4, the city center of Paris has been closed to through traffic. With this measure, the city aims to improve the quality of life, lower noise levels and reduce pollution. The affected area covers around 5.5 square kilometers - from the Seine to Place de la Bastille, including iconic squares such as Place de la République.

While residents, delivery services and people with legitimate reasons, such as medical appointments, are still allowed to enter by car, unauthorized persons risk a fine of 135 euros. The city council expects traffic in the affected streets to fall by up to 30 percent.

The car-free city center is part of the comprehensive traffic turnaround under Mayor Anne Hidalgo. Following the introduction of 30 km/h zones, the closure of riverside roads to cars and the creation of new green spaces, Paris is once again setting an example for sustainable mobility and a more people-friendly cityscape.
