No more sham debates - electromobility is now!
Germany elected a new federal government on 23 February. What does the BEM expect from politicians in order to finally advance electromobility and thus the mobility transition?
A modern mobility policy must be geared towards real solutions - not populist narratives. We are therefore calling for the targeted promotion of electromobility as the core of a climate-neutral transport transition and the massive expansion of renewable energies as the basis for emission-free new mobility. At the same time, the legal and infrastructural framework conditions must be designed in such a way that the charging infrastructure is available across the board. In order to advance the mobility transition, companies, municipalities and citizens need reliable funding and investment conditions that allow them to plan for the long term.
Another key concern is the consistent abandonment of fossil fuel subsidies and a sustainable reorientation of transport policy. The BEM sees the mobility transition not only as an environmental necessity, but also as an economic opportunity to preserve jobs, value creation and prosperity in Germany and Europe in the long term.
In other words, Germany needs a consistent policy with clear guidelines and reliable framework conditions in order to meet its climate targets and transform itself into a sustainable green economy. Based on this objective, the BEM has developed election test stones for the German parliamentary elections , which describe the positions on key future issues and will be introduced into the political process by the BEM during the coalition negotiations.
What other goals has the BEM set itself in order to accelerate the mobility transition in 2025?
A central goal is to strengthen the political steering effect through improved legal framework conditions. In other words, we are committed to a clear technological determination to ambitiously drive forward the transport transition. We also promote intermodal mobility solutions that link different modes of transport. The expansion of infrastructure, particularly in terms of efficient charging infrastructure, must be accelerated. Social acceptance plays a major role in ensuring that the change can ultimately succeed. We are focussing on education and political communication in order to raise awareness of the urgency and meaningfulness of the transformation and to actively support social change.
What topics and ideas do you have in store for visitors to polisMOBILITY this year?
Firstly, we are delighted to be back at polisMOBILITY! Because polisMOBILITY focusses on the discourse surrounding future-oriented and urban mobility, it offers us an ideal platform to talk about sustainable and innovative transport concepts and to enter the debate with our topics.
This year, we are focussing on technological determination: we know that electromobility is no longer a dream of the future, but already the present. In this respect, we need to concentrate on its expansion and at the same time leave pseudo-solutions such as eFuels or hydrogen in the passenger car sector behind us. We also want to address the interlinking of the mobility and energy transition. This is extremely important in order to ensure a stable charging infrastructure and sufficient renewable energy.
We will also talk about necessary legal adjustments, in particular the Electric Mobility Act (EMoG), which expires in 2026. We see this as an opportunity to revise existing regulations in order to ensure planning and investment security in the long term and further strengthen electromobility. At polisMOBILITY, the BEM will provide targeted impetus to actively support this debate.
